for you
i waded into the river tonight
seeking salvation
seeking baptism
seeking anything except
this poem.
i waded out into the river
till i was up to my thighs, the
water swirling between the
thick poles of my legs, i
looked up at the stars and
back at the shore and
thought long
and hard
about just kneeling in the water
about laying down
about letting it all go.
i thought maybe
by walking into this muddy,
brown river, i could
just let it all
wash away, just
let myself wash
away.
but i was wrong.
there should be some
moral to this story, but
all i can give you
is this:
the stars were cold
the water was dark
and my pants stuck to
my legs, but
the shore didn't seem
so bad anymore when
i finally got there.

*nodnod* Very good, I like this one a lot. I like the feeling of hope (always a good thing).

thanks.
ironically, i didn't see much hope in it...not that i saw unhope (what's the opposite of hope, anyway? despair?) in it--i just saw it as a "might as well..."

Sometimes i think everyone on this board is crazy. The rest of the time i'm sure. -Dan
